1. It rains a lot in the fall
2. Roots are established and then the grass goes dormant for the winter. In the spring, roots grow some more during the cool, wet months
3. Crabgrass germinates in the late spring. Most pre-emergent treatments which are meant to prohibit crabgrass germination also prohibit grass germination. This is not an issue in the fall.

PS: Cooking tip for corn on the cob – salt & boil water, then shuck corn. Plunge freshly shucked corn into boiling (not simmering) water and boil for 2-3 minutes. Keep in mind that the sugars in corn start converting to starches as soon as they are picked, so eat it all on the day you buy it.
